What it is
Hexarelin is a synthetic growth hormone-releasing peptide related to GHRP-6. It triggers growth hormone release through the ghrelin receptor.
Researchers have also studied it because it binds to another receptor (CD36) found in the heart, which may give it effects separate from growth hormone.
US regulatory status
Not FDA-approved for any use and not an accepted substance for US pharmacy compounding.
What the research shows
Small human studies showed hexarelin raises growth hormone, but the effect can fade with repeated use. Interest in heart-protective effects comes mainly from animal and lab research. There are no large clinical trials.
How it is given
Subcutaneous injection (unapproved)
Commonly reported side effects
- Increased hunger
- Water retention
- Higher cortisol and prolactin
- Flushing
- Limited safety data
Questions to ask your provider
- What does the research really show about hexarelin in humans?
- Are there FDA-approved treatments for my goal that have stronger evidence?
- What are the risks of products labeled "research use only," and how would I know what is really in them?
